digital self portraits


In this assignment, students are creating digital self portraits. There are two parts of this assignment. First, to create a background that represents the student's personality or interests. Students may create the background using traditional art media such as drawing, painting, collage, etc., or they may create the background digitally. Next, they should combine a traditional art self portrait or photographic self portrait with the background.

Hillwood graduate speaks to digital arts and design students


1994 Hillwood graduate Jeff Porter, art director for Lewis Communications, spoke to digital arts and design students as part of Career and Technical Education month celebration activities at Hillwood.

Lewis Communications is a nationally recognized branding and advertising agency with offices in Birmingham, Mobile and Nashville. For over 60 years, Lewis has utilized marketing research, consumer insight and creative craftsmanship to build and grow clients’ brands.

Hillwood graduate Jeff Porter speaks to digital arts and design students enrolled in Joe Burlingame's classes.
Mr. Porter, now a successful art director with Lewis Communications, graduated from Hillwood in 1994.
Mr. Porter stressed the importance of mastering industry software such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator, as well as becoming adept at time management and meeting deadlines, all important skills and characteristics that anyone interested in this career should focus on developing while in high school.

Digital Arts and Design students propose school tea room re-design

Digital Arts and Design student Yevgeniy Kviatkovsky led a team of students in his psychology class  in a presentation suggesting the redesign of Hillwood's Topper Tea Room. The Topper Tea Room is operated by CTE students enrolled in Karen Sparks' Culinary Arts classes. Hillwood Academy business partners were in the audience listening to the presentations and proposals.
